Surviving the Valentines Day blues can be tough therefore we have put together a list of Alternate Valentines Day movies to help make your day a little more enjoyable. Even if you’re a couple looking for something a little different then this list might be what your looking for you!

1: Deadpool (R)


Released on Valentines Day last year it would be wrong not to include the merc with a mouth. This morbid yet hilariously funny film is a perfect alternative if you’re looking for something a little less lovey-dovey this year!

2: Top Gun (12)


This adrenaline fuelled fast paced 80’s classic has it all! Fighter jets, a rocking sound track and possibly the greatest bromance of all time! Therefore it would be rude of you to leave Maverick and Goose out of your Valentines Day plans!

3: Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (12)


Before the Marvel Cinematic Universe hit it big Scott Pilgrim vs. the World was easily and arguably still the best super hero movie around! A love story with a super hero twist in order to win the heart of his girlfriend Ramona, Scott Pilgrim must battle her seven evil ex boyfriends.

4: Forrest Gump (12)


He may not be smart but he knows what love is! And all he wants to do is prove that love to his child hood friend Jenny. You’ve probably heard this film quoted a million times yet it never gets old. Never seen Forrest Gum? Valentines Day is the perfect day to watch this very different love story.

5: My Neighbor Totoro (U)

Hayao Miyazaki’s anime classic about two girls that go on adventures with the forest spirits that live nearby will surely bring a smile to your face. It is impossible not to be happy in this strange yet delightful film and the perfect remedy for those Valentines blues!

6: Seeking a Friend for the End of the World (15)


With the end of the world inevitable a man ditched by his wife decides to take a road trip to reconnect with his high school sweetheart. Joined by his neighbor his plans look to end in ruins as they embark on a hysterical road trip!

7: John Wick (15)


Keanu Reeves plays John Wick who is brought out of retirement and goes on a killing spree because someone killed his dog! If that’s not love I don’t know what is!

8: Lost in Translation (15)


When a movie star with an unsatisfying life and a young women neglected by her husband meet in Tokyo the two form an unlikely bond. Feeling lost and connected by their loneliness the two venture out on the streets of Tokyo and despite cultural barriers find them selves in entertaining encounters that ultimately lead them to discover a new outlook on life and its possibilities.

9: Ex-Machina (15)


Caleb a young programmer is selected to test an AI at the luxurious home of a reclusive CEO comes face to face with a robot which houses the AI known as Ava. Having to take part in strange but groundbreaking experiments Caleb finds himself in the middle of a love triangle in this intense psychological thriller.

10: Atonement (15)


Atonement is a defiant anti Valentines Day film. A story about love but in the most tragic sense revolves around a young man called Robbie who is accused of a crime he didn’t commit. The accusations against Robbie destroy his newfound love between for Cecilia and in turn alter their lives forever.

11: Gone Girl (18)


Gone Girl is the perfect portray of how the perfect couple can quickly turn in a mystery full of lairs, cheating and even murder. When Nick’s wife disappears he becomes the primary suspect when his strange behavior leads those to think he is not so innocent.

12: Train to Busan (15)


Adding a little horror and gore we finish our list with this fantastic movie! A Korean take on the classic zombie horror genre, passengers on a train to Busan must survive the zombie horde as well as passengers still alive. Train to Busan is one of the best zombie movies to be released in recent years so if you haven’t seen it, watch it now!
